Movable Acoustic Walls and Sliding Folding Partition Systems Case Study

Coventry Arena

Brockhouse Modernfold, the longest established supplier of movable acoustic walls in the UK, are pleased to announce the completion of the movable wall installation at the prestigious new 32,000-seater stadium for Coventry City FC, part of the multi-purpose Ricoh Arena development, currently under construction by Laing O’Rourke.

Working closely with Miller Partnership at design stage, Brockhouse rose to the challenge to provide a flexible space solution where other manufacturers feared to tread.

The requirement of acoustic screens measuring 23 metres wide by over 5 metres high on the third floor of this prestigious building presented a problem that would be insurmountable by traditional movable wall systems.

The Research and Development Department at Brockhouse adapted their unique scissor-jack mechanism to accommodate the deflection anticipated in a wall of this size. This resulted in a system that was both easy to operate and also provided the acoustic performance required by the client.

Further complications came when it became necessary to undertake the installation at a late stage in the build on the third floor. Undaunted by this, Brockhouse looked to their dedicated contracts and installation team to ensure that the necessary lifting gear and personnel were in place to haul over 6 tons of wall through a partially finished building to a height in excess of 15 metres.

To ensure that the pedestrian flow was maintained when the walls were in place Brockhouse included independently acoustically tested pass doors with automatic pressure seals to overcome the expected movement.

Following their recent AIS Gold award winning wall at The Sage in Gateshead, this is further proof that Brockhouse can find a solution, whatever the problem.
