Brockhouse bespoke glazed movable walls provide secure and attractive protection for exhibits at The Scotch Whisky Experience, an award winning visitor attraction in Scotland

The Scotch Whisky Experience is Scotland’s 5 star award winning premier whisky visitor attraction located next to Edinburgh Castle, now housing the Diageo Claive Vidiz Scotch Whisky Collection. The collection contains more than 3000 whiskies built up over 35 years by Brazilian whisky enthusiast Claive Vidiz, and shipped especially across the Atlantic to its new home in Edinburgh. As well as the collection itself, the exhibition features an interactive tour, charting the history of Scotch whisky from a cottage industry to a famous brand recognised world-wide. The huge collection, described by whisky experts as ‘invaluable’, is part of a £3 million investment at the Scotch Whisky Experience.

As part of the major refurbishment work Brockhouse designed, manufactured and installed the bespoke glazed movable walls, behind which the Diagio collection is housed. Not only did these glazed movable walls provide a secure and attractive facade, but also enabled safe access to the Collections behind.

Project Details

Brockhouse created toughened glazed units, on average 1250mm wide x 3200mm high. Brockhouse had to scaffold out the central atrium and hoist each individual panel from ground level up into the area of work. As the attraction was still a working environment and the project needed to be completed on a very tight timescale, the whole design process required to be millimetre perfect. To provide an attractive and distinctive finish, Brockhouse sourced a local company to sandblast the ‘Thistle’ design across the glazed walls.
